My style has changed a lot in the last few years. In college, my style was edgy and very 90s vintage inspired. After college, I moved to California and my style was still vintage inspired but with a sunny alternative twist. In California, I really started thinking more and more about my style for my body type. When I moved I gained about 10 pounds which isn't a big deal but it changed my body type. I was used to wearing tiny crop tops and size small skirts without having to try anything on. When I gained the weight I started not being able to fit into the clothes that I loved and started questioning if that look was really serving me in my new body. Was my look elevating who I was as a person? Was it getting me positive attention or just attention that was annoying to me? Was it showing people on the outside what was on the inside or was I dressing defensively? Now that I had bigger curves my old style wasn't serving the person that I was becoming. I started playing around with structure, prints, and patterns that I had never paid attention to before. I still love vintage and I still love a feminine, sexy look but I do it in a way that is more for a growing and glowing me. Styles change and people change; it's fun to just go along for the ride! I ended up landing on a preppy, edgy look so here are my 3 favorite ways to incorporate these styles into one look for the upcoming spring season!
1. Blazers + Faux Leather Leggings
Blazers are the epitome of preppy style! I love a completer piece like this because it is super versatile so it can function for professional you and weekend you. This bold printed, boyfriend blazer by Zara is perfect for the upcoming spring season! To add a little edge you can toss on a pair of structured leggings that have edgy detail such as faux leather, zippers or moto detail. Pair it all with a black turtleneck bodysuit and ankle booties!
2. Fierce Florals + Alternative Denim
Floral tops are so in right now. With snowy March behind us and warmer weather making its way in, we are going to start seeing more and more of floral printed tops. They're dainty, peppy and hyper-feminine! Alternative denim is the exact opposite. You can balance out a top like this with a pair of alternative jeans such as these distresed mom jeans by Nasty Gal!
3. Moto Jackets + Stripes
A blazer is to preppy as a faux leather moto jacket is to edgy! Every edgy person needs a moto jacket. I have this exact one from Zara and it is perfection! It's thick enough, easily moveable and really just a classic. You can prep up this hard-core jacket with a white and blue button-up top like one above from ModCloth!
